For assessment of ecosystem services or goods of the nature, the methods for identifying and mapping the ecosystem services of the Estonian inland water which was created in 2016 will be developed further and implemented.

The methods developed will be used to map the provision, consumption, and value of the ecosystem services of the water bodies included in the project on three occasions, in total – before commencement of other activities of the project, in the middle of the project, and after completion of the remaining activities of the project. The goal is to determine how the provision, consumption, and value of the ecosystem services of the studied water bodies change as a result of the activities of the project.

The ecosystem services of the following water bodies will be mapped in the course of the project:

  • Purtse River,
  • Selja River,
  • Soolikaoja Brook,
  • Sõmeru River,
  • Udriku Brook,
  • Võru River,
  • the quarry lake of Aidu.

  • Alajõgi River,
  • Erra River,
  • Kohla River,
  • Kunda River,
  • Loobu River,
  • Pada River,

The project is funded by the European Commission LIFE programme and the Republic of Estonia. The LIFE programme is a financial instrument of the European Commission which has been used for funding environmental projects in the European Union for over twenty years. It is the only environment-focused instrument which supports the development and implementation of the EU environmental policy.
